Outpatient dimension

There are three dimensions, or approaches, to pulmonary rehabilitation: namely, intrahospital, outpatient and at home. One of these dimensions will likely correspond better to your milieu and the needs of your patients than the other two.

The outpatient dimension entails a semi-intensive, strictly-controlled program, delivered in a hospital centre or other facility (e.g.: community centre, physical fitness centre).

Necessity for the patient to travel:

The patient has to travel there and back a few times a week (preferably at least three times a week) to participate in the education sessions and do their physical exercises. This program usually lasts about 8 to 12 weeks and is only done as a group. Some patients may register for more than one outpatient program.
